Greg Ginn Announces New Black Flag Members, Including New Vocalist

0

Sometimes you just gotta keep on truckin’, or whatever the expression says. Greg Ginn clearly knows about that, considering he’s been the only OG member of Black Flag keeping the band going strong for decades. He had quite the task on his hands with the band recently, with longtime vocalist Mike Vallely leaving. Ginn’s bounced back quickly, though, having just announced a brand-spankin’ new lineup with some big plans coming up.

Joining Ginn in Black Flag glory are new vocalist Max Zanelly, David Rodriguez on bass, and Bryce Weston on drums. I don’t know who any of these people are, but hey, if they’ve got the chops, then they’ve got the chops, I guess.

Here’s how their social media announcement read:

BLACK FLAG ANNOUNCEMENT
We’re turning the page. BLACK FLAG is entering a new era — and we’re hyped to welcome three incredible new members to the lineup:

???? Max Zanelly – Vocals
???? David Rodriguez – Bass
???? Bryce Weston – Drums

Alongside founding guitarist Greg Ginn, the new lineup is already in the studio and the rehearsal space — writing, jamming, and bringing fresh energy.

⚡️ Live shows are coming. New music is coming.

Tour dates drop soon. Stay tuned.

The landing page for their official website, where you can also find their upcoming tour dates, describes it all a bit more flowery:

Texas-based band BLACK FLAG is officially turning the page and beginning a bold new chapter with the addition of three new members: Max Zanelly (vocals), David Rodriguez (bass), and Bryce Weston (drums), joining founding guitarist Greg Ginn.

With a fresh lineup and renewed creative energy, BLACK FLAG is gearing up for an exciting season of live shows and new music production. The group has already begun writing and rehearsing together, building on their signature sound while embracing new influences brought in by the latest members.

BLACK FLAG’s upcoming performances will showcase the chemistry and talent of the revitalized lineup, giving fans a first taste of the new era. Dates and locations for the band’s summer tour will be announced in the coming weeks.

Who knows how this new run will go for the band? We can’t act like their current standing hasn’t been marred by unsavoriness. Ginn first revived the band back in 2013 with Ron Reyes, the vocalist from the band’s classic 1980 EP Jealous Again, but that ended badly. Ginn then sued (and lost to) the Black Flag offshoot FLAG, which featured Keith Morris, Dez Cadena, Stephen Egerton, and Bill Stevenson. The following year, in 2014, Ginn’s ex-wife accused him of child abuse.

Get it together, man. For now, it seems like he’s gotten the band together at least.
