Witchrot’s “Possession Deepens” in Their Newest Single

Toronto-based doom metal outfit Witchrot have been pulling out the stops lately, sharing some choice cuts from their forthcoming album Soul Cellar ahead of its release on May 23. We had the privilege of premiering their single “Throat Cutter”, which was heavy as hell. Likewise earlier today, our friends over at New Noise Magazine got their crack at the latest single “Possession Deepens”.

And while you’d expect things to be on the lower register for a doom metal band, they’ve gone even deeper on this one and transcended into a more soulful place all together. It’s slow and sultry, with the type of sound you’d expect to be floating through a dry ice-laden room. When things finally get heavy, it’s done so with purpose. This track is boss as fuck, man.

As for the lyrical content within the song, the band explain that it’s about people being willfully ignorant — which is totally a foreign concept given everything going on in the world right now… /s

“The song is about being attached to your beliefs without the humility or willingness to learn any alternative. Not only will people dissolve relationships over some bogus lie they just learned a week ago, but they become consumed by it. Possessed till it devours them and brings them and others to a hell that they are satisfied with. Like an ouroboros fuelled on anger, perpetually hungry and never satiated.”
