Injury Forces Kublai Khan TX Guitarist to Quit: “I Can No Longer Play the Songs I Helped Write”
An unfortunate set of circumstances is unfairly cutting the musical career of Kublai Khan TX guitarist Nolan Ashley short, as he announced this morning that he’s unable to play at the same level due to an injury.
In a post on the band’s official Instagram page, Nolan revealed that he’d undergone disc replacement surgery back in 2023. Ever since then, he says his grip strength hasn’t been the same, even after physical therapy. His exit ends a 13 year tenure with the band.
“After 13 incredible years, it’s with a heavy heart that I announce my departure from Kublai Khan TX. Matt, Eric, and Isaac are my family, and every moment spent with you all has been a cherished memory. I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world.
“In 2023, with the incredible support of my band, my family, and everyone who offered kind words or a dime to help, I was able to undergo the surgery my doctors had long recommended. Since my disc replacement surgery and the extensive physical therapy that followed, I’ve faced challenges I never anticipated. Unfortunately, my grip strength hasn’t returned, and I can no longer play the songs I helped write live. It’s a difficult goodbye-not the one I ever imagined for myself-but I know this is the right decision.
“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to my amazing life partner and my beautiful daughters for their unwavering support throughout this journey. It hasn’t been easy, and your love means everything to me.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported me and Kublai Khan TX through the years. You’ll never fully understand what a dream it’s been and how deeply grateful I am.”
According to the band, they intend on going on with out Ashley. They announced that Nicholas Adams, who’d been filling in for Ashley, will remain in that role moving forward.
