Bury Your Dead’s Matt Bruso Wants to Properly Send the Band Off

0

At last year’s Furnace Fest, attendees watching Bury Your Dead‘s set were surprised to learn that longtime vocalist Mat Bruso was leaving the band following the set. He’d originally held that position from 2003 to 2007, and then again from 2011 to 2024. And thus was the end of Bury Your Dead.

…Or so they thought. In a recent statement on the band’s social media accounts, Bruso expressed his wish to properly see the band call it quits. That the band would play a final show before coming to an end after his departure.

“As many of you probably heard, I announced back at Furnace Fest in 2024 that would be my final show with Bury Your Dead or otherwise. I shared my motivations at the time and meant every word I said. However, what I failed to share at the time was that this was the first my band would be hearing of it.

“When I turned around and saw [founding drummer Mark Castillo] waving goodbye to the crowd I realized my leaving meant this very well may be Mark’s final show as well. I regretted it. Bury Your Dead is not my band. It is Mark’s band… and [founding guitarist Brendan “Slim” MacDonald]. It wasn’t right of me to close their book for them whether I did it intentionally or not. I would like the opportunity to rectify that. #OneLastTime”

There’s no news that this will actually happen, but I’m sure some organizer will want to host Bury Your Dead’s last show. Only time will tell.
