Katatonia Unveils New Lineup and Album, “Lilac” Streaming Now

Less than a month after the exit of founding member Anders Nyström, Swedish gothic metal band Katatonia are back in the limelight with the announcement of a new album releasing this June, Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State.

As it stands, Katatonia is currently comprised of vocalist and founding member Jonas Renkse, bassist Niklas Sandin, drummer Daniel Moilanen, and their two new guitarists Nico Elgstrand (ex-Entombed) and Sebastian Svalland (ex-In Mourning).

Featuring 10 new tracks, the aforementioned album will be released on June 6, via Napalm Records. Speaking of the album itself, Renkse said the band is “proud and excited” to get it in front of Katatonia’s fans.

“As always, these songs are the stories that thrive in the corner of the eye, obscured by the light but waiting to come alive in the dusk of our morbid existence. Please enjoy the first scent – ‘Lilac’.”

As you’d expect from a gothic metal band, “Lilac” is dark and melancholic at times. You can hear that for yourself in the clip below.

Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State will be released on June 6, but you can pre-order your copy today. If you’d rather catch them live, you’ll need to book a flight to the U.K. and/or Europe for their tour this winter. You can find the full list of dates for that run listed below.
