Sharon Osbourne is Staying Open Minded about a Black Sabbath Hologram Show
In a recent interview with Metal Hammer (as sourced by NME), the “Princess of Darkness” Sharon Osbourne told the magazine that she is open to the idea of an ABBA-styled Black Sabbath hologram show.
“Technology keeps moving on and on. You never know what the opportunities are.”
Of course, hologram shows are no strangers in the music industry, as famously executed by ABBA’s extensive run of their virtual Voyage show. A few others that spring to mind include (but aren’t limited to), An Evening with Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram tour, which ran between 2020 – 2023, Tupac’s famed 2012 Coachella show and Michael Jackson’s performance at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. And then there’s the plan announced by Kiss after their “final show” back in 2023 where they said the band would continue to tour as avatars. Even Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx said he could see his band get in on the hologram action.
This July, Ozzy Osbourne and the Sabbath gang are packing it all up with their farewell Back to the Beginning extravaganza, featuring performances from some of metal’s finest.
While hologram shows don’t feel like the most metal thing ever, it’s looking more and more like an option for legacy acts wanting to extend their reach longer than they physically can. And if that’s something Sharon, who also serves as Ozzy’s manager, is open-minded about then maybe the world won’t be completely devoid of future performances. Especially since in just a matter of months, the world will see Ozzy perform his final ever live show in person — a day we’ve all been expecting, yet don’t want to be true.
