It’s been a long time in the making, but 41 years after the release of This Is Spinal Tap, the movie’s sequel is just mere months away. As most metal and rock fans know, the original movie is such a staple in our culture, with its hilarious take on traveling bands from the late 70s and early 80s.

Earlier today, a teaser trailer was posted online and now we know the movie’s official title (This Is Spinal Tap: The End Continues) and its release date of September 12. Being released by Bleecker Street Films, this movie is also directed by Rob Reiner, who helmed the first film all those years ago. It will also feature the original Spinal Tap lead cast, with Christopher Guest playing Nigel Tufnel, Michael McKean playing David St. Hubbins, and Harry Shearer playing Derek Smalls.

In a statement, Bleecker Street Films said they were excited to embark on Spinal Tap’s final adventure.

“We feel privileged for the opportunity to work with Rob Reiner and the brilliant minds behind the original This Is Spinal Tap, and to be part of a film that has resonated with so many. This Is Spinal Tap isn’t just a movie—it’s a cultural touchstone that pioneered the mockumentary genre and left an indelible mark on both film and music. Returning to this world through Spinal Tap II is an extraordinary chance to celebrate its legacy while creating something fresh for both new and devoted audiences.”

In celebration of the impending release, the original film will be re-released in theaters this summer. This version will feature a newly restored print. After that run, it will be available on streaming services for the first time in a while.
