Mastodon and Brent Hinds Part Ways

0

Holy shit, man. Color me insanely surprised because I never would have thought in a million years that Mastodon would see any of their members leave the band. Yet here we are. Just minutes ago, Mastodon took to social media to announce that guitarist and vocalist Brent Hinds and the band “mutually agreed to part ways.”

Now, of all the dudes in Mastodon to quit, Hinds would be the easiest one to imagine. I mean, he famously said that he hated heavy metal. didn’t want to be in a metal band, and wanted Mastodon to not be so metal. Still, this lineup shakeup is fucking wild.

In a statement provided by the band, it seems both parties are okay with this situation:

“Friends and Fans,

“After 25 monumental years together, Mastodon and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to part ways.

“We’re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we’ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors. We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of Mastodon. As we move forward, all 2025 touring plans will remain intact. We look forward to seeing you on the road.

“- Mastodon”

This explains why Hinds wasn’t in attendance at last week’s Moby Dick talk in New York City.

As of this post, we haven’t heard anything official from Hinds himself. Still, this is absolutely wild, given how important Hinds’ playing and vocal style was to Mastodon. Not to mention all the tour dates they have lined up for 2025. Sounds like the band’s gotta figure something out fast.
