Deafheaven’s Shoegaze-y Sound Returns in New Single “Heathen”
When fans of Deafheaven‘s heavier side were stoked about the release of “Magnolia,” the first single off their forthcoming album Lonely People With Power, I knew the other shoe was going to eventually drop. Deafheaven isn’t a one-trick pony as it were, and their sound has evolved over time to include more shoegaze/post-rock elements and clean vocals, whether you love that about them or not.
This morning, fans of that other side of Deafheaven were rewarded with the release of the new album’s second single, “Heathen.” For roughly half of the song’s five minute runtime, the track refrains from beating you over the head with raw power to explore their sound a bit more. But don’t worry, people that enjoy the fury in Deafheaven’s sound — it makes an appearance too. You can check out the full track in the clip below.
In addition to the track, the band announced their 2025 North American tour, featuring Gatecreeper and Trauma Ray, which starts on April 19 and ends on May 23. You can find the full list of dates below.
