Alien Weaponry Blast Social Media with Their New Single “1000 Friends”
Everybody knows that social media is a cesspool, right? It was bad even before God King Musk took over X (and the U.S. government as our shadow president). But with how everyone spends their days doom scrolling and basing their lives around the curated image of someone else’s perfect existence online, it’s just soul crushing.
And it’s that very soul crushing nature of social media that New Zealand-based groove metal outfit Alien Weaponry call out in their latest single “1000 Friends”, off their forthcoming album Te Rā. As you’d expect from these doods, the track is a driving, riff forward affair that makes it super easy to bang your head to.
As for the theme behind the song, frontman Lewis Raharuhi de Jong explained where the thought process was during writing.
“‘1000 Friends’ encapsulates the shifting way we socialize today, and the impact it has on the human psyche. We can often feel disconnected from the outside world. The human mind wasn’t built to comprehend the world we are currently living in.”
Te Rā will be released on March 28, but you can preorder your copy today.
