Eleine Fires Bassist and Drummer for Allegedly “Acting Inappropriately” with Fans

Swedish symphonic metal act Eleine is down two members, and the reasons are really vague and murky. The band announced they were parting ways with drummer Jesper Sunnhagen, who had been with the band since 2018, and bassist Filip Stålberg, who had just joined in 2023, over allegations of “acting inappropriately towards” fans. But, with no other details readily available, it’s hard to tell how exactly they were being inappropriate.

The announcement came early Friday morning (at least early in U.S. time zones) on the band’s Facebook, saying:

“Dear Eleine Legions,

“Unfortunately we must share that our drummer Jesper Sunnhagen, and our bass player Filip Stålberg, will have to leave the band.

“They have broken one of the most important parts of our band member contract by acting inappropriately towards our fans.

“Their departure will be immediate and will NOT affect our upcoming tours.

“There will be replacement musicians to stand in during the upcoming shows.

“Thank you for understanding that we put our fans first.

“With love,

Madeleine & Rikard”

Now, I don’t want to make light of this situation if it turns out that Sunnhagen and Stålberg did something the Law & Order introduction voice would call “especially heinous,” but with so little information forthcoming it’s hard to tell if these two sexually assaulted somebody or just stared at an audience member for a second too long.

The Reddit thread that opened up about trying to figure out what happened resulted in a lot of speculation and one person claiming to know exactly what happened but backing it up with no evidence. So, without more details coming out from band members, we’re likely to remain in the dark on this one.
