Nine (SharpTone Records)
This is the first new album from the metalcore act since 2018’s Love Will Kill All and according to our review, it’s damn good return to form after all these years. You can check out that review, but if you need to know anything, it’s that “this album is pretty much everything a Bleeding Through fan could want.”
Hangman’s Chair
Saddiction (Nuclear Blast)
French doom metal outfit Hangman’s Chair dropped their follow up to 2022’s A Loner with this one. If you like your tunes to be a pretty big downer, this might be the thing you’re looking for — shoegaze meets doom metal meets gothic metal. What a combo.
Lacuna Coil
Sleepless Empire (Century Media)
Three years after releasing Comalies XX three years ago, Sleepless Empire has been described by the band as their attempt at showcasing “the chaos of a generation trapped in a digital world that never stops, where social media consumes identity and every day pushes us one step closer to becoming soulless zombies.” Who doesn’t love totally fabricated sci-fi dystopias that totally aren’t about the real world at all… Right?!
Mantar
Post Apocalyptic Depression (Metal Blade Records)
This German sludge metal duo is back with their sixth full-length album, but it’s being posed as a departure from the act’s previous works. It’s snarling, it’s raw, and doesn’t take any compromises with its sound. Just strap in and let it hit you like a bucket of cold water.
Obscureviolence
Refuting The Flesh (Transcending Obscurity)
There’s always gotta be some absolutely brutal black/death metal in one of these lists and Refuting The Flesh is this week’s choice. The group’s debut EP is just six songs long, but each track hits fuckin’ hard.
