Primus Officially Introduce Their New Drummer John Hoffman
It was a long process that included more than 6,000 hopefuls looking to become the newest drummer of Primus, but after months of searching and some possible chicanery, they’ve seemingly found their guy in John Hoffman. And with this pick, the insanely influential alternative metal band can move forward as a complete unit.
Now, you may be wondering who the fuck John Hoffman even is, and that’s okay because prior to his selection, he was a professional drummer that was mostly known for posting drum videos on YouTube and social media. hew as one of about nine total drummers that had moved on to the final round of tryouts, which included an in-person jam with the band.
Hoffman now has the enviable job of playing drums for a band as wild as Primus because longtime drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander abruptly quit the band back in October. At the time he said he quit the band via email and said he’d “lost his passion for playing.” The sudden vacancy roughly six months out from a major tour forced the band to kick the search for Alexander’s replacement into high gear.
Now as the newest member of Primus, Hoffman has about one month to nail down the band’s set, since they’re scheduled to play Tool’s ‘Live In The Sand’ show on March 8 at Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Then, a little more than a month later he’ll join the band when they go on tour with A Perfect Circle and Puscifer for the ‘Sessanta V2.0’ tour.
