Tenacious D May or May Not Be Back As They’ve Popped Up On a New Charity Compilation

0

Are Tenacious D broken up? Are they back together? Did they ever break up in the first place? The whole thing is really confusing following the incident last summer following the attempted assassination attempt on Trump during his campaign which prompted Tenacious D member Kyle Gass to make a joke on stage about wishing on his birthday cake to not miss Trump next time.

Jack Black, seeing his Hollywood career flash before his eyes, pretended to be deeply offended at the time, saying that he was “blindsided” by the joke and felt the need to put “all future creative plans” on hold. Considering Trump made a joke back in 2017 about his then-VP wanting to hang all gay people (which doesn’t seem like it was that much of a joke) it seems that he’s the one who’s really guilty of calling for political violence, but Black wants to keep voicing Bowser so he had to pretend the joke was wildly offensive.

After the entire Internet turned on Black, he backtracked on his original statement and insisted that he was still friends with Gass and that the band would be “back when it feels right.” So is now when it feels right? Because Tenacious D seems to have popped up again an a new compilation coming out tomorrow.

As our friends over at Metal Injection reported yesterday, tomorrow is the day when Bandcamp donates all their proceeds from sales to MusiCares to benefit the victims of the recent Los Angeles fires. As part of that, Good Music is releasing a new compilation of previously unreleased music called Good Music to Lift Los Angeles with proceeds going towards the LA Regional Food Bank and California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Fund. The comp features the likes of The Armed, Chelsea Wolfe, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and, perhaps most notably, Tenacious D covering REO Speedwagon’s “Keep On Loving You.”

It’s unclear if this is a new recording or something that Black and Gass had in the tank already, but it could mean an end to the hiatus that Tenacious D may or may not have been on for the past several months. Hopefully this means that Black got over himself and returned to making funny music instead of playing centrist politics.

The compilation should be available at this link tomorrow.
