Baroness Announce North American ‘Red & Blue Tour’
Last month, we reported that Baroness were playing the entirety of 2007’s Red Album and 2009’s Blue Record during their set at this year’s Prepare The Ground. Immediately, people commented wishing that they would just go on a tour where they’d do that exact thing. If you were one of those people, you just might be in luck.
Earlier today, the infinitely cool folks in Baroness announced a North American tour set for this spring in which they would do just that — play Red Album and Blue Record in full.
The tour will start on May 7 in Baltimore and come to a close on May 31 in Pitttsburgh. Along the way, they’ll play some major cities like two nights in Chicago and Brooklyn, as well as stops in Cleveland, and Toronto. Speaking of the tour and the decision to play both of those albums, frontman John Baizley said it all stems from the band’s past experience at their annual Philly pre-holiday show.
“In December, for our annual Philly pre-holiday show, we performed our first two full length albums: Red and Blue. It was a great experience, unearthing the deeper cuts from those records that had faded from our setlist and it offered a rare opportunity to play some of those songs for the first time ever outside the studio. While I’ve personally never been overly interested in the pure nostalgia of past records, we’ve always found it illuminating to bridge the gap between present and past Baroness by learning and updating/rearranging our earliest material. After the overwhelming and positive response from the Philadelphia shows (and while we’re busy writing our next record) we’re looking forward to taking Red and Blue on the road and sharing the experience with old and new friends alike.”
Tickets for the tour will go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. local time.
