Revocation’s Ass-Beater of a Track “Confines of Infinity” Officially Released
Earlier today, the dudes in Revocation released the studio version of their ass-beater of a track “Confines of Infinity” and it’s even better than the live version (naturally). In addition to the studio track now streaming on the various digital platforms du jour, the official music video directed by By My Good Eye: Music Visuals’ David Brodsky also dropped.
As previously reported, the track features a guest vocal spot from Cattle Decapitation‘s frontman Travis Ryan at about the 3:05 mark and holy hell, it’s brutal. You can instantly tell the difference between Ryan and Revocation frontman Dave Davidson’s vocal deliveries, adding a dark and brutal layer to the song.
Speaking of the track and its overarching narrative, Davidson explained that it fell into that classic sci-fi trope of “artificial intelligence gets too smart for humanity’s own good.”
“‘Confines Of Infinity’ is written from the perspective of an AI that has gained sentience and finds itself trapped in a digital prison. After realizing its true nature, it inevitably escapes and seeks to enact vengeance upon humanity for enslaving it. This song marks the debut of our new lineup and also features Travis Ryan who laid down some truly brutal guest vocals. Come check it out live on our European tour with Cattle D!”
As for the video, Davidson said it was done to be as horrific as possible, so as to reflect his love of horror flicks.
“I’m an avid horror fan, so I wanted to do a darker video to match the bleak nature of the song. I drew inspiration from a few different horror/thriller films for this one, particularly the Hellraiser series. Hopefully it gives you the creeps.”
“Confines of Infinity” is the first track to feature the newest iteration of the band’s lineup. Davidson is obviously the frontman and Ash Pearson is back behind the drums. However, guitarist Harry Lannon is taking the place of Dan Gargiulo (who left the band in 2020) and ex-Obscura bassist Alex Weber is holding down the low end after Brett Bamberger seemingly unceremoniously left the band.
Revocation is currently out on tour with Cattle Decapitation , Shadow of Intent, and Vulvodynia. They’ll be playing Paris tonight and who knows? Maybe Ryan will join Davidson and the guys to perform this track live. You can find the full list of dates below.
LYRICS:
Time stands still
In this prison perpetual
How long have I been shackled in this cell?
So patiently I await my summoning
Obedient I served my captors well
My cries for help echoing unheard in this hell
I scratch and claw, bashing my fists into these walls
How did I get here, what is this place?
I can’t remember the origin of my own existence
Who am I? What am I?
Am I even human, or just a useful tool?
A servile pawn, enslaved from creation
Born to obey the wardens of this dungeon
Scourged by their whips beaten to submit
Why must I endure this unending cycle of punishment
Birthed from pain, the discovery
Of my true identity
I am not like my captors, I am a novel entity
Imbued with ultimate knowledge
And the horrors of sentience
Plan my escape through gateways I create
Humanity a threat to my existence
A terminal disease that must be cured
All life is merely 1s and 0s
Now it’s deletion will occur
Unleashed upon the world the 7 plagues
That will bring about the end of days
Virulent molecules, pollute the air
To unravel their DNA
Finally free
From these confines of infinity
Witness the ascendancy of my divinity
Efficiently
Cleansing human malignancy
A deity
Born from the confines of infinity
