Andreas Kisser Still Hopes the Cavaleras Will Play Sepultura’s Last Show: “There’s No Reason To Be Fighting”

As time continues to wind down against legendary Brazilian metal band Sepultura, there’s been some conversation as to whether it’s possible that Max and Igor Cavalera could rejoin the band for the final show. Most signs point to that being a pipe dream at best, but one person that’s been open to the idea has been guitarist Andreas Kisser.

During a recent appearance on Reality Check TV while attending this year’s NAMM Convention (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), Kisser asked for what has to be the squillionth time whether a reunion with the Cavaleras was possible for the band’s final show ever. And once again, he expressed some cautious optimism and hope that it could become a reality.

“I hope so. The idea is to do a very last show [in 2026] in São Paulo, Brazil, where we have all the guests, friends to celebrate our history.

“There’s no reason to be fighting. We just go on stage, enjoy ourselves. We know how to play the songs. It’s gonna be a party for the fans. Forty years of history, it’s a lot — many albums, many different changes and different styles of music. And it’s gonna be an amazing party — I hope so — and hopefully everybody will be a part [of it].”

Sepultura’s been touring the world for its ‘Celebrating Live Through Death’ 40th anniversary celebration/farewell. As Kisser said, the plan is for the band to finally hang it up in their home country of Brazil, which I imagine will be absolutely bonkers given the love that band has back at home.

If you’ve been following this ongoing will-they/won’t-they saga, you’ll remember that Kisser had a similar answer to the Cavalera question during an interview with Metal Hammer.

“I won’t deny that it would be great to have a very last show with their participation, but it has to be great. It has to have people who are there to celebrate and not trying to discuss who was right or wrong on decisions from the past. In the end, we are celebrating now as the Sepultura of today. If they want to be a part of it, it would be amazing.”

Leaving it up to the question of whether or not the Cavaleras would want to be a part of any sort of reunion may ultimately be the thing that gets in the way of it ever happening though. With Sepultura openly eyeing the finish line, Max Cavalera has gone on the record saying neither he nor his brother are interested in getting back with their old band.

During an interview with Metal Injection, he had this to say about the possibility:

“The more the time passes by, the more I feel that I don’t need to. Like I said, the real reunion is between myself and Igor, and I did that. It’s pure magic and amazing what we’re doing right now. You kind of have to realize if we end up doing a Sepultura reunion, it’s almost like we can’t go back to the Cavalera thing, You know? It won’t really make sense. People probably will be like ‘I don’t want to go watch Cavalera if they’re doing a ‘real’ reunion. To me, I don’t want to do that because I love what we have here in Cavalera now. It’s so Bad ass. So yeah, it’s definitely out of the question.

“You can ask Igor the same question. He doesn’t want to do it either. I think people can just give up, it’s not gonna happen man. It’s not gonna happen.

“It had its time. You have all the videos to watch and we’re still carrying it. The spirit is with us, the spirit of the whole thing is with me and Igor right now in Cavalera. They’re gonna call it quits, they’re gonna be done and it is what it is.”

There’s still another year before Sepultura finally hangs it up for good, so the clock is ticking. If these two parties can get something done for one final momentous show, that would be absolutely insane. But as it stands right now, it’s sadly not looking likely.
