Vacuous Drop Pummeling New Single “Stress Positions”
Some days you just need a killer death metal tune to kick your ass into gear. Such was the case this morning, as yours truly woke up feeling all kinds of shitty — but all that changed when I checked out the newest single from U.K. death metal outfit Vacuous titled “Stress Positions” off their forthcoming album In His Blood.
Described by the band itself as “equal parts unhinged aggression and mournful gloom,” this new track has what can really only be described as a massive sound. The production’s at a level where everything sounds big but nothing’s really overpowering anything else. The drums are killer in that track, as are the sharp, almost angular guitar riffs.
According to guitarist Michael Brodsky, the whole point of this recording and others on the record is to pay tribute to their death metal forebears while pushing their own sound forward.
“We’ve talked about having different influences, and it felt like a bit of a dare to push things further. Back in death metal’s formative days, with bands like Autopsy, Obituary, and Incantation, none of those bands sounded like each other: they were just pushing their collective influences together to the extreme. I think we’re still doing the same thing, just from the point of view of people who grew up in the 2000s.”
In His Blood will be released on February 28 via Relapse Records, but you can preorder your copy today.
