Anyway, Here’s “WONDERWaLL”: Bring Me the Horizon Cover Oasis

0

Who doesn’t love legendary UK Britpop act Oasis? Well, lots of people, and for good reason. I can’t say I’m a complete hater, but I can count on one hand the number of Oasis songs I even give a shit about. But with the recent Oasis reunion and upcoming reunion tour have a lot of people with Oasis on their minds. Whether or not the Gallagher brothers make it through the new tour without murdering each other remains to be seen, but for now, people are excited. So it’s little surprise that Bring Me the Horizon opted to cover Oasis for their contribution to the Spotify Singles series.

For those who don’t remember, Spotify launched their Spotify Singles series back in 2016 where they record artists in their in-house studio in New York, typically one rerecording of one of the band’s classic tracks followed by a cover song. In BMTH’s case, the other side of the single is the EarthcOre mix of their song “YOUtopia” from their latest album. The complete Spotify Singles playlist is currently up to 984 songs and features everyone from IDLES to Sabrina Carpenter to Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem (somehow).

Bring Me the Horizon’s version of “Wonderwall” (which they’ve pretentiously stylized as “WONDERWaLL”) adds a dose of their own metalcore/post-hardcore style to make a bit of a modern take on the ‘90s tune. It’s not a bad cover, and apparently Oasis’ own Liam Gallagher is a huge fan.

On the social media site X, better known as Twitter or Uncle Elon’s Nazi Fuck Palace, an Oasis fan account called Oasis Mania posted news about the cover, and Gallagher seemed stoked when he responded:

“I fucking LOVE it.”

In response to a fan responding to the State of the Scene podcast’s account saying that Gallagher would be “pissed” over the cover, Gallagher himself responded:

“I’m not it’s absolutely incredible made my day I’m of out on my skateboard fuck y’all”

So it would seem that BMTH’s cover gets the Liam Gallagher stamp of approval, at least.
