Former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield Suffers Massive Stroke
While it seems silly to imagine getting your knowledge of music from the radio or MTV these days — or to even imagine turning on a radio or MTV for any reason — you have to understand that, in the ‘90s, we had limited options of where we learned about new music. And, believe it or not, you could actually learn a fair bit about heavy music from mainstream media. Sure, there was some digging you had to do to find some of the more obscure bands, but the airwaves were filled with raging guitars and screaming vocals. And, one of the people who brought us that music was the iconic MTV VJ Matt Pinfield who did a lot of jobs on MTV but was most known for hosting alt-rock show 120 Minutes, which featured the biggest names in rock from 1995-1999 on MTV. Pinfield also worked as vice president of A&R and artist development for Columbia Records in the 2000s, and has lately been working as a radio DJ. Sadly, we have to report that the long-time rock music host has suffered a stroke.
According to TMZ, Pinfield suffered a massive stroke earlier this month on January 6, which is coincidentally the last day he posted on Instagram. According to documents obtained by TMZ, the VJ’s daughter, Jessica, filed for a temporary conservatorship over her father, saying that she and her sister Maya are concerned that their father is no longer able to make financial and health decisions for himself. Of particular concern to them is Pinfield’s girlfriend, who Pinfield’s daughters are concerned will drain his bank account.
We at MetalSucks would like to wish Pinfield a speedy recovery at this time. The rock world wouldn’t be the same without you, Matt.
