Rapper Westside Gunn Has Started a Hardcore Band
I’ve always been an advocate for the worlds of rap and rock to come together more. Occasionally it produces some absolute shitshows, like Tommy Lee’s ill-conceived rap-rock career, but for the most part, I think the boundaries between the two genres need to be a little more fluid. Apparently, Buffalo-based rapper Westside Gunn feels much the same way, as he teased on social media on Wednesday that he was working on a new hardcore project.
Gunn posted a clip of a music video on Instagram on Wednesday from his new hardcore band Dissension and it actually sounds pretty good. The song is apparently called “Black Hole” and the video seems to involve a lot of bats flying around him. Here’s what Gunn had to say in the caption:
“LIVE FROM BEHIND THE WALL.. LOCKED IN THE BOX @oyat.otto shot a video for my band DISSENSION song “BLACK HOLE” he already got in trouble for shooting another one went in the box and then shot this ???????? Welcome Home G im a release the other one too but we got work to do, watch his videos he had the whole block LIT, gang banging and ???? up, u can’t make this shit up ????????
“I’m a ALWAYS give u the Rawest Shit… ????????????️
“I introduced y’all to Claire (RIP), EASTSIDE FLIP, and many more now meet @oyat.otto #WELCOMEHOME
“DISSENSION “BLACK HOLE”
“I been keeping my guys a secret but they too ILL & they play the fuck out them instruments ???????? we going LIVE!!!!!! ???????????????????????????? WATCH THIS ????????#DISSENSION #BLACKHOLE #ART #CULTURE #RAW #MASTERMIND #ICON #LIVINGLIFE #HAVINGFUN”
I thought I was up on my hip-hop slang, but I have to admit that, at best, I understood maybe 75-80% of that. But hey, the music sounds good, and it sounds like they’ve already got another music video in the can. So you can look forward to more music soon from Dissension.
