Def Leppard Guitarist Vivian Campbell Undergoes Bone Marrow Transplant
Long-time Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell seems to be on the mend after missing a few shows with the band due to his ongoing battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he was first diagnosed with over a decade ago.
Blabbermouth reports that Campbell had to sit out the last two Def Leppard concerts due to his health issues, which was made all the more concerning by the fact that the two concerts were held three months apart. At a private show in Nashville in October and another show in León, Mexico last week, Campbell was replaced by John Zocco, who is the guitar tech for the band’s other guitarist Phil Collen.
Campbell gave an update on the band’s social media yesterday, saying:
“Thank you for all the recent messages and support. As you all may know, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma several years ago. I recently had a bone marrow transplant as part of my treatment plan, and it’s safe to say that thus far it’s been a very successful transplant! I just have to keep my head down and my spirits up for the next 100 days of primary recovery.”
Def Leppard’s next scheduled live show won’t be until May 15 down in San Juan, Puerto Rico. That date is a little more than 100 days out from now, although we don’t know exactly when Campbell had his surgery. So hopefully Campbell will feel well enough to play with his bandmates by then, although it would probably be wise not to push himself too hard. We at MetalSucks would like to wish him a successful and speedy recovery and the best of luck with his health going forward.
