Evile’s Ol Drake Took the Epic Score for Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’ and Made it Metal as Fu*k
Epic battles to the death. A vengeance-fueled storyline. Crazy violent set pieces. All taking place during a period piece directed by one of the greatest auteurs of our time. You get all of that when you sit down to watch Ridley Scott’s 2000 classic, Gladiator. With the sequel recently making the rounds in theaters and people reconnecting with the original, folks are reminded of one thing — Hans Zimmer’s score is fucking massive.
In a bid to make that score just a little more metal, Evile guitarist Ol Drake fired up the camera, got to work programming the drums, and then laid down some excellent guitar work over the already epic “The Battle.”
“In the little spare time I have I’ve really taken to doing metal covers of things which aren’t metal. I started covering a section of ‘The Battle’ music from Gladiator, and it sounded good but was too out of context. I kept having to add sections for it to make sense so one day I just said f**k it and did the whole 10 minutes. I hope Zimmer will enjoy it!”
