Steve “Zetro” Souza is Out of Exodus, Rob Dukes is Back In
Legendary Bay Area thrash metal outfit Exodus announced in an Instagram post this afternoon that they and longtime vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza were parting ways. It was a move that I’m pretty sure no one outside of the band’s camp saw coming, but the fact that they reunited with former frontman Rob Dukes might be just as unexpected.
“Announcement! Exodus have parted ways with Steve ‘Zetro’ Souza. We thank Steve for his years fronting the band and all the killer music we made during that time. We wish him only the best in the future and much success with anything he does.
“And please help us welcome Rob Dukes back to Exodus! We are beyond stoked to have Rob back ripping up the stage with us and he’s looking forward to crushing everything like only he can. Next chapter begins, new record rolls along as planned and the beatings will continue.”
Zetro had performed with Exodus from 1986 until the band broke up in 1993. He eventually returned to the fold in 2002 but left the band again in 2004. He wouldn’t come back to the band for another 10 years, rejoining in 2014. Conversely, Dukes fronted the band from 2005 until 2014.
What’s interesting about this whole situation is the fact that the band is currently working on their follow up to 2021’s Persona Non Grata that’s set to release sometime this year. Presumably Dukes will be featured on that new record now and his first show back with the band will be at the Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest in Philadelphia this April.
