Connie Sgarbossa Threatens to Exit SeeYouSpaceCowboy Amid Tour Controversy
It seems like there may be some disharmony behind the scenes of popular hardcore band SeeYouSpaceCowboy following recent controversy over their tour announcement.
If you’ll remember, back in April, SeeYouSpaceCowboy dropped fellow hardcore band Roman Candle from their tour due to abuse allegations made against former bassist Nico Borgia. Even though Roman Candle dropped Borgia once the allegations became public, the victim claimed that the band members knew about what was happening before it came to light, leading to a lot of controversy around the tour. SYSC dropped Roman Candle from their tour due to the controversy.
However, accusations of hypocrisy have been leveled at SYSC after they recently announced a tour with Dance Gavin Dance who, many say, did roughly the same thing as Roman Candle. You’ll remember that DGD vocalist Tilian Pearson was accused of sexual assault in 2022. At first, Pearson took a hiatus from the band to seek professional help, but was soon welcomed back to the band later that same year as Pearson continued to deny any wrongdoing. It wouldn’t be until 2024 that Pearson officially parted ways with Dance Gavin Dance.
With SeeYouSpaceCowboy facing backlash from the announcement of their tour with Dance Gavin Dance, SeeYouSpaceCowboy vocalist Connie Sgarbossa made a pair of tweets yesterday that seemed to be related to the controversy. The first read:
“Believe me, there is no part of me as an individual that backs this either”
The second indicated that Sgarbossa’s time with SYSC is likely coming to an end:
“Probably gonna be leaving SYSC due to a lack of urgency on issues I have been bringing up for a while now. It was fun while it lasted.”
While it’s certainly a shame to see Sgarbossa step away from the band, if the band is really ignoring the concerns of their own lead vocalist, then perhaps the time has come for her to make her exit. We’ll see what comes of this going forward.
