Kublai Khan TX Frontman Matthew Honeycutt Starts Hilarious YouTube Movie Review Channel
Sometimes metal band members have hidden talents. Bruce Dickinson flies airplanes. Dave Mustaine is a martial artist. Jason Newsted paints. And apparently Kublai Khan TX frontman Matthew Honeycutt is really funny. The metalcore vocalist launched a new YouTube channel this week called Movies With Matt Honeycutt in which he gives his hilarious rundowns of his favorite movies.
Honeycutt introduced the new channel on his Instagram, saying:
“Something I’ve been wanting to do for quite awhile. Go check it out! Started up a channel on YouTube just to shoot the shit about my favorite flicks.”
The post on Instagram was posted with a short clip of his first episode in which Honeycutt sits in front of some strange-looking wood paneling and even more bizarre artwork that he’s hung on them, and right from the beginning he’s side-splittingly funny:
“Whoa, hey. You scared me you little fucking freak. What are you doin? What’s all this? Well, I decided to start a YouTube channel so I went to Home Depot, bought a bunch of wood, put ‘em up to look like real walls, put some shit on ‘em, and now I’m sitting here talking to you.”
Somehow the fact that Honeycutt is a huge, muscle-bound, tattooed dude makes his deadpan delivery absolutely hilarious throughout. And the first movie he chose to cover was just ripe for comedic fodder: 1988 action movie Bloodsport. Yeah, the Jean-Claude Van Damme film.
Honeycutt calls it one of his favorite movies, but he really ridicules the movie all the way through. It’s kind of affectionate ribbing, but there’s a lot to make fun of. I mean, are there any good Jean-Claude Van Damme movies? Hold on, let me look up his filmography. Okay, Kung Fu Panda 2 wasn’t bad, that’s about it. So yeah, it’s really easy to make fun of a movie like this. If you haven’t seen Bloodsport before, please don’t. Please watch Honeycutt’s summary of the movie instead, because I promise you it’s much more entertaining.
I probably could have gotten away with just watching the intro to this episode to write this article, but honestly, Honeycutt’s commentary throughout the movie is so funny I had to watch the whole thing. I could watch this all day long. You should check it out below and stay tuned to see what movie he does next. If he sticks to Jean-Claude Van Damme’s terrible movies, all the better.
