Former Unleashed Guitarist Fredrik Lindgren Dead at 53
A sad bit of news has broken throughout the Swedish death metal scene, as Fredrik Lindgren, guitarist for the influential band Unleashed, has passed away. He was 53 years old.
Having played lead guitar for Unleashed from 1989 to 1995, he was featured in the band’s first four albums: 1991’s Where No Life Dwells, 1992’s Shadows in the Deep, 1993’s Across the Open Sea, and 1995’s Victory. In addition to his work with Unleashed, Lindgren was also involved in other acts Terra Firma and Harms Way. Most recently, he was involved with Born of Fire and Atlantic Tide.
News of Lindgren’s passing was posted on Unleashed’s official Facebook page, along with an official statement from the band, which reads as such:
“Warriors!!!
“Sadly, the news have reached us that Fredrik Lindgren, lead guitar of Unleashed 1989-1995 has passed away.
“Fredrik was a huge part of the early history of the band. For this we are eternally grateful.
“See you in Valhalla brother!”
Similarly, Terra Firma vocalist Lord Chritus (aka Christian Lindersson) also posted a tribute to Lindgren, who was also known as Freddie Eugene while performing in that band from 1995 to 2003.
“In loving memory of Freddie Eugene 1971-2025. Numbed by the news of your passing, Fredrik my old friend. Hard to put emotions into words. Just hope you have found your peace as you deserve no less. You will not only be missed by me but many, I know this much. Thank you for being a part of my life and colored it with your friendship and musicianship both embodied in what was Terra Firma. We had some really great times and that will never change. All my love.”
It should be noted that the Harms Way that Lindgren’s involved with was the stoner metal band, not the current hardcore act. Over the years, Lindgren was involved in a wide range of projects.
We at MetalSucks would like to offer our condolences to Lindgren’s friends and family during this difficult time.
