Filmmaker John Waters Spotted at a Trapped Under Ice Show
What do you do when you’re an iconic 78-year-old writer, actor, artist, and filmmaker on the final Saturday night of 2024 in your hometown of Baltimore? For John Waters, director of Pink Flamingos and Multiple Maniacs, the answer is see hardcore act Trapped Under Ice throw down at Ottobar this past Saturday.
Photos of Waters’ attendance at the gig, which also featured sets by Gridiron, Firewalker, and Polarview, have already spread pretty quickly throughout social media. But given his comfort around singing assholes, it’s unsurprising that Waters would enjoy a metal show or two in his downtime. Sadly, Divine wasn’t anywhere to be seen during the show.
While this may be a surprise for most metal fans, for people in the Baltimore scene, it’s not really shocking — unlike his transgressive movies that span five decades. In fact, he was seen attending an Undergang and Pissgrave show back in 2023. According to fans from the area, he’s regularly attending shows, chatting it up with fans, and taking photos when he can. By all accounts, he seems like a pretty nice dude.
