SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal and Jose Mangin to Unveil Their ‘Devil’s Dozen of the Year’ Later Today
Well, the year’s winding down and everyone’s got their “Best Of” lists coming out. Hell, our lists (and the lists of some pretty big metal artists/comedians) are coming starting next week and running until the end of the year. But later today, the awesome folks out at SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal and the imitable Jose Mangin will be popping off with the Devil’s Dozen of the Year Countdown.
Airing at 6 p.m. ET today, the countdown will rattle off the top 12 tracks of 2024. And while most of the selections are shrouded in secrecy, we’ve got the exclusive privilege of announcing that this year’s number one selection was none other than Gojira‘s insanely important track/Olympics performance of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)”.
Considering its cultural impact for metal as a whole, Mangin said Gojira’s moment in the international mainstream spotlight was a “no-brainer” as this year’s top pick.
“Always hard to narrow down year end lists, but this year the world witnessed the biggest Metal event in public, and it was a complete no-brainer to have Gojira’s “Mea Culpa” stand proudly on top of the Devil’s Dozen of 2024! It was a massive moment in our 54 year history of Metal. Seeing Gojira play in France on the side of a castle at the opening ceremony of the Olympics, made the world a more Metal place.”
Even though you now know their number one pick, there are 11 other selections to tune in to hear. Who will make the cut? Does Ice Nine Kills have what it takes to best Slaughter to Prevail‘s 2024 output? Will System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian’s new band Seven Hours After Violet stand tall next to the might of Opeth‘s monstrous release?
As for the rest of the list, you’re going to have to tune in to find out for yourself. Regardless of who’s on it and who isn’t, Mangin pointed to the absolutely stacked year we all just witnessed and the glut of awesome bands that have exploded onto the scene
“Knocked Loose had a gigantic year, as did Ice Nine Kills and Slaughter To Prevail. We had debuts from three supergroups Better Lovers, Kerry King and Seven Hours After Violet, plus new band Escuela Grind fired up Liquid Metal’s airwaves in big ways.”
Once again, you can catch today’s Devil’s Dozen of the Year Countdown on Liquid Metal by either tuning in to Channel 40 on SiriusXM or by listening through the SiriusXM app.
