Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta Claims Tim Lambesis “Cried On My Show” After Serving Time in Prison
You know, it’s probably hard to look like a big strong tough guy when the world knows you for being a cowardly piece of shit that attempted to hire someone to kill his wife. It’s probably even harder when one of your peers laughs at the fact that you cried like a baby on his podcast, but them’s the breaks when you’re As I Lay Dying frontman and accidental owner of moobs Tim Lambesis.
During a recent episode of weekly comedy podcast Legion of Skanks, featuring comedians Big Jay Oakerson, Luis J. Gomez, and Dave Smith, Hatebreed frontman was on as a special guest. During their conversation, things shifted to the insane drama that surrounded Lambesis and the implosion of As I Lay Dying. And while the comedians were cracking jokes about the situation that landed Lambesis in jail, Jasta dropped some juicy nuggets about the podcast he recorded with Lambesis after he was released from prison. The following was transcribed by our friends at Lambgoat.
“[Lambesis] cried on the show and stuff and really sold it, so people were like, ‘Fuck Jasta! He’s so insensitive! I can’t believe this!’…
“I was one of the only people that publicly went against [Lambesis] and said it on multiple shows. Not a lot of people… I think I’m still, you could probably Google this, I’m still one of the only people that said, ‘No fuck this dude! It’s wack. He’s done. This is someone that should really be canceled’. And I swear, in one day I had maybe like 400 tweets where it was like, ‘Fuck you, Jasta, you never wanted to kill your wife?!?’… I was like, ‘No, I mean…’”
For the uninitiated, Lambesis served time in prison for attempting to hire a hitman to kill his now ex-wife Meggan. The story goes that he was going through a rocky patch with his wife and rather than try to fix things or get a divorce like a normal person, he decided to hire a hitman to kill her instead. Thankfully, the “hitman” he linked up with back in 2014 was actually an undercover detective, leading to his arrest and eventual sentencing to six years in prison for attempted murder. He ultimately wouldn’t serve his full sentence and was let out back in 2017 for good behavior.
One he got out, he attempted to reboot As I Lay Dying and failed spectacularly. Still, despite everything he did and his failure to not be a dick to everyone around him, Jasta said he caught shit from terminally online dick riders for how he handled the interview with Lambesis.
“Everybody said that I was too hard on him and the questions were rude and stuff and I was like, ‘the dude survived prison… what’s a couple questions over Zoom?’ The fans get very attached to certain people in certain bands and they want to see them… no matter what they’ve done, it doesn’t matter. If they’re your favorite band, they’re like ‘oh, separate the art from the artist’. I was asking questions like, ‘Do you still have a restraining order with your kids and your wife?’ and there were things that he couldn’t answer… because that’s what I would want to know, especially if we’re going to tour together or be on the same stage together…
“If [the hitman] wasn’t a cop, she would be dead… and he had dudes vouching for him, so those dudes wanna come on the show, or one of the dudes I think I’ll have on the show again, Ken [Susi, ex-As I Lay Dying, ex-Unearth], who’s a great guy, was like, ‘yeah, I want to take back what I said, vouching for [Lambesis]’.
“But yeah, it’s a shitty situation if you’re a diehard fan of [Lambesis], who I asked, ‘is your ex-wife still in witness protection?’ and he couldn’t answer.”
It’s fucking wild how Jasta got blow back for simply asking hard questions, but that’s the internet these days. Doesn’t matter what you may or may not do, you’ll always have someone willing to carry your water as long as you’re famous and successful.
