Doc Coyle Says God Forbid “Have to Figure Some Things Out” If They’re Going to Write New Music

Ever since they reunited back in 2022, there’s been a simmering interest in the potential for new God Forbid music in the future. You may recall that the last time they put out new tunes was back in 2012 with the release of Equilibrium, so to say it’s been a minute would be an understatement.

In a recent interview with Lambgoat, the question about new music was posed to God Forbid guitarist Doc Coyle. And while it doesn’t sound like anything’s in the works right now, his answer makes it sound at least somewhat possible as long as some things get ironed out first.

“There are some ideas about performing in 2025 but nothing is locked in. We get offers all the time, but it’s not easy with everyone’s family obligations and work schedules. As far as new music, I have a lot of material I’ve been sitting on for a while that I just need to lay down and start sharing with the guys.

“We haven’t yet figured out the writing process with everyone being spread out all over the country. We used to write in a very old-school way – five guys in a room working things out. As time went on, we got more modern with demos written on computers, but we always played the music together as a band and refined it as a unit. So if we’re going to write, we have to figure some things out. No promises.”

Having caught them at their New Jersey reunion show and then again at the Metal Injection Fest a few months later, I can report that the guys in God Forbid still got it as a unit. However, lives change, priorities shift, and as we all get older, things can get harder to coordinate with long-time friends. God knows I feel that in my personal life and you’ve probably experienced that in yours.

Here’s hoping the guys can figure out some sort of way to make new music with one another because God Forbid was easily one of the best acts to come out of that whole NWOAHM scene.
