Now You Can Flail Around Like a Crazy Person to Metallica Courtesy of New Beat Saber Content
If there’s one thing metal’s been known for since its inception, it’s the genre’s ability to get people moving. Moshing, starting circle pits, banging your head… it doesn’t matter. The high octane nature of metal in all its forms often compels people at the subconscious level to move around. So it only makes sense that a virtual reality game where you wave your arms around in a rhythmic motion would get a new batch of downloadable content featuring more than a dozen songs from the biggest metal band in the world.
Released today, the folks behind Beat Saber put out the Metallica Music Pack for their game. Featuring 17 songs from throughout the band’s discography, the downloadable content now lets fans strap on a virtual reality headset and use their hands (holding onto a controller, mind you) to slash through blocks as they fly towards their face.
This marks the first time that any metal music is making its way into Beat Saber, so it’s really a big deal for metalhead gamers looking to move their body while enjoying some gaming time. The full song list available for download today is as follows:
- Atlas, Rise!
- Battery
- Blackened
- Creeping Death
- Enter Sandman
- Fade to Black
- For Whom the Bell Tolls
- Fuel
- Hit the Lights
- King Nothing
- Lux Æterna
- Master of Puppets
- Nothing Else Matters
- One
- Sad But True
- Seek & Destroy
- The Unforgiven
As you can tell, it’s a pretty extensive lift, with songs from nearly every era in the band’s long history.
The pack also includes the addition of a new feature, called “Variable Note Jump Speed,” which causes the cube notes to come flying at the player at a different speed depending on how intense that song is.
Beat Saber is available on Steam VR, Metal Quest, or PlayStation VR 2. You can purchase the downloadable content for $19.99 or a bundle with the game and the DLC for $39.99.
