Conan O’Brien Sang With a Metal Band in Austria
Podcaster and former television host Conan O’Brien decided to try his hand at singing metal, and the results remain to be seen. Back in September, O’Brien had vocalist Katherina from Austrian band Cringe Blizzard, who describe themselves as “slush metal,” on his podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend. O’Brien’s show, when it was on the air, didn’t air in Austria, but Katherina had discovered some clips of O’Brien on the internet and become a fan, even writing in to the show with a fan correction at one point to let O’Brien know that his method for nursing baby birds wouldn’t actually work.
During the interview, O’Brien suggested he could be a guest vocalist for Katherina’s band, to which she responded “fucking hell yeah!” but it was assumed that that would be the end of it. Well, if you didn’t think O’Brien was going to follow up on that hair-brained idea, then you obviously know nothing about Conan O’Brien.
A few days ago, the band started posting fliers on their Instagram page like the one below featuring images of Conan O’Brien and promising that he would be a guest at their next concert.
Why exactly the band decided to advertise O’Brien would be there is beyond me as, like Katherina said in the interview, people in Austria don’t really know who O’Brien is unless they’ve gone online to look up videos of him. But then, according to their Instagram, it seems that Cringe Blizzard has only been a band for less than a year, so any publicity they can get was probably welcome.
Then yesterday the band posted an update reading:
“Best gig ever!
Thanks to @teamcoco and his CREW @tintagency
Big thanks to @gallowhead777 for supporting us
lots of love to @okfk.feldkirch & @hugopansen for making all of this possible!!!
Also thanks to everyone who came to see us <3“This was the best and only day of true happiness for our vocalist, kaddl. In this very location, she celebrated her wedding and barely cried as much as she did tonight!! Thank you all for coming, and keep crankin’ up da Cringe, duuuude”
Conan O’Brien had a different take on the event, writing:
“Just got a hernia singing with a metal band in Feldkirch, Austria.”
The hashtags on the post implied that the performance was filmed for the next season of O’Brien’s travel show on Max called Conan O’Brien Must Go, so we’ll have to wait and see the footage when that comes out next season.
