Knocked Loose’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! Performance Sparks Viewer Complaints
Knocked Loose’s performance with Poppy on Jimmy Kimmel Live! performing their popular song “Suffocate” earlier this week was actually sick as fuck. It was really fun to see something that heavy and harsh on a mainstream network talk show at a time when the popularity of rock music as a whole is on a significant decline from where it was 30 years ago. However, not everyone was happy to see a hardcore/metalcore band on national television, as there has been a significant backlash from the performance.
The Mirror reported on a few choice Facebook comments from angry viewers about the performance, highlighting one hilariously upset parent who wrote:
“You know I was trying to enjoy the program. I was sitting on the couch with my son who is an ADOLESCENT waiting to see the musical guest because we like the nice music the show usually books. By the third or fourth ‘JUNT’ from the guitars my son was in tears. He doesn’t like scary things and quite frankly I think the Kimmel show and its staff should make a formal apology.”
That one almost sounds like it has to have been made up. Your adolescent child is exactly who needs to be hearing heavy music, Karen, and if he’s soft enough to start crying from hearing it, then that’s even further proof that he needed to hear it.
Not everyone who complained was whining “Please won’t someone think of the children!” with some others tying it to the country’s cultural divide. In another comment made on the show’s post of the video of the performance, one Facebook user wrote:
“What’s with all the screaming and spewing Gibberish in the name of music. There’s absolutely nothing appealing about this genre of music, also the crowd responding to this crazy Woke musical genre all need to visit Shrinks.”
That comes off as somewhat ironic considering how many Trumpers infest heavy music.
But since news outlets started reporting on the backlash against the performance, it seems metal and hardcore fans are taking to the same forums to voice their support for Knocked Loose. One user wrote on Facebook:
“Crazy how some of these comments are ‘they’re just screaming.’ Look up the lyrics and read them, this genre is about energy and releasing pain through the music. Definitely not for everyone, but you have the right to an opinion.”
Another user talked about the importance of making this music available for young people, writing:
“Some kid just heard metal for the first time and had a major life changing moment in his living room last night.”
Overall, it seems like the positive comments have overtaken the haters on social media, so it seems unlikely that the Jimmy Kimmel Live! staff will end up issuing an apology for simply having a loud band on their show.
