Gama Bomb Get Into the Holiday Spirit with Their New Track “A Coffin For Christmas”
The weather’s gotten cold, Thanksgiving is around the corner, and at least here in the States we’re all getting our wallets ready for the annual reaming that is Black Friday. And while a lot of the focus every year is on the buying and exchanging of gifts, there remains the actual spirit of the holidays — selflessness and helping to provide for those in need.
It’s from that very notion that the Irish thrash metal outfit/quintet of amazing dudes known as Gama Bomb released their new holiday rager, “A Coffin For Christmas.” Paired with an appropriately campy music video, the dudes are not only spreading their love of the holidays and spending some less than festive time with Snowy The Gamabominable Snowman, but they’re also leveraging the track to hopefully do some good in the real world.
According to the band, all proceeds generated by “A Coffin For Christmas” will go directly to MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières, also known as Doctors Without Borders). For those that don’t know, MSF is an international organization that seeks to provide humanitarian aid to anyone that needs it, regardless of their ethnicity, political views, religious beliefs, or any other factor. The organization currently operates in more than 70 countries around the world, helping individuals impacted by war, famine, disease, natural disasters, and more.
Vocalist Philly Byrne said the song’s message was very much a repudiation of today’s war-mongering world leaders and the actions they take that have made MSF necessary in the first place.
“After a year of some very ‘naughty’ behaviour by a few prominent world leaders, don’t we all wish Santa would deliver them more than just a bag of ashes this Christmas? Couldn’t he maybe deliver some justice too? That’s what this song is all about.
“We’re donating the song’s production budget as well as all associated Bandcamp and merch sales to Doctors Without Borders, who do incredible work to help people in war-torn places like Gaza and Sudan. We hope you’ll join us in supporting them, and that you’ll enjoy this nasty little Christmas cracker of a song as much as we do. Resistance is Yuletide.”
You can pitch in your support by purchasing and downloading the song via Bandcamp. Gama Bomb is also offering a special t-shirt via O Merch where all the money made through those sales will also go to MSF.
Remember — sometimes it’s better to give than receive. Thanks to Gama Bomb, however, you can do both.
