Exclusive Album Stream: GOTHO’s Gothron Versus Fartark is a Sci-Fi Sonic Carnival Ride

Sometimes a band or an album comes across my desk that really subverts my expectations. Maybe the album art suggests one thing but the music rope-a-dopes me with something else entirely. Or perhaps I’m already familiar with the band in question and their new release is a complete departure from their previous works. It happens, man.

Yet when I received word of an Italian progressive/cinematic instrumental duo named GOTHO, I gotta admit — I had no idea what to expect. The cover art for their forth coming album Gothron Versus Fartark looks almost exactly like something Monster Magnet would put out, but what lies beneath the imagery is something else entirely.

Thankfully, I don’t have to sound like a complete crazy person when trying to describe their forthcoming album because MetalSucks has teamed up with both the band and their label Supernatural Cat to bring Gothron Versus Fartark to you ahead of its release tomorrow.

Formed back in 2020 by Fabio Cuomo (Elder, Eremite, Liquido Di Morte) on synthesizers and electric piano and Andrea Peracchia (Tons, Dogs For Breakfast, Slaiver) on drums, the band prides itself on bucking the often confining concept of musical genres. Why pigeon hole yourself into one particular sound when you can say “fuck it” and do whatever you damn well please?

And according to the band, that sense of aural freedom is what drives the new record.

“We wrote Gothron Versus Fartark for the same reason we formed GOTHO, to make music with total freedom to write, without having to be in any sort of parameter.

“This philosophy came out on the album, in which you can find metal, jazz, disco, punk, psych, all within the same track, not exactly a product for all ears.”

Gothron Versus Fartark will be released tomorrow via Supernatural Cat, but you can preorder your copy either through the label or directly from GOTHO’s Bandcamp today.
