Whoa, Counterparts Dropped a Surprise EP and It Goes Insanely Hard
As the guy that puts together our weekly release post, it’s easy to fall into a rhythm of new releases. Almost everything comes out on Friday, we know about shit months in advance, and nothing’s really a surprise. But thanks to the Canadian foursome Counterparts, none of those factors count for Heaven Let Them Die, the new EP they just dropped in its entirety earlier today.
Boasting six new tracks, this new EP marks a much harder, heavier turn for Counterparts. Speaking of the release, frontman Brendan Murphy said Heaven Let Them Die is a spiritual sequel of sorts to their 2022 album A Eulogy For Those Still Here.
“Heaven Let Them Die is Counterparts at our most aggressive — sonically, lyrically and visually. Picking up where Eulogy ended, Heaven Let Them Die details how I came to terms with all I had foreshadowed in the previous release and how that led me to where I am now. This EP is the most authentic representation of Counterparts to date — honest, harsh and without restraint.”
Everything Murphy said about the EP is dead on. This whole thing crushes. To help drive that fact home, the band put out a video for two of the songs: “A Martyr Left Alive” and “No Lamb Was Lost.” We’ve included that down below.
If any of this sounds good to you (and it should), you can pick up your copy of the EP along with some cool merch right now.
