Jeff Becerra of Possessed Underwent Surgery for Broken Femur
Metal and hardcore are genres of music that can be very hard on the body, as evidenced by how many stories we run about people having to cancel shows due to injuries. Jeff Becerra, vocalist of long-running death metal giants Possessed, has struggled with the physicality of the genre, especially since he’s been paralyzed from the chest down since he was shot in 1989. The frontman has suffered another injury recently, as he had surgery yesterday for a particularly bad bone break, and this sounds a little bit scary.
In a post made to Instagram on Saturday, Becerra said:
“Well, hell. I broke my femur bone clean off/snapped. I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning early where the bone and vascular surgeons will team up to try and bolt plates and stop the blood clots from getting into my lungs and brain. If I had to be honest I am a bit nervous. But this is my life. I spend years trying to get back on the stage for you and then the inevitable other shoe drops and I am injured again. This time it’s pretty bad, but I promise you that I will be back as soon as possible to play for you again.”
That part about making sure that blood clots didn’t get into his lungs or brains sounds absolutely terrifying to me. The post was made on Saturday, so by now he should have undergone the surgery, but there’s no update on him at the time of this writing. Hopefully no news is good news in this situation, as I think we’d have heard about it now if there was anything negative to report. We wish Becerra all the best in his recovery.
