Amy Lee of Evanescence Endorses Kamala Harris
Music artists have traditionally leaned more to the left politically, but metal is a little different, unfortunately. When you look at the list of music artists, in general, who have endorsed Kamala Harris, the list is long and includes everyone from Taylor Swift to Neil Young to Eminem, while the list of Trump supporters is far shorter. However, in the metal and metal-adjascent realm, you’ve got Bon Jovi and Insane Clown Posse who have come out in favor of Harris while Trump’s supporters include Kid Rock, Staind’s Aaron Lewis, and System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan. I’m sure Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer wants to vote for Trump, but convicted felons can’t vote, even if they did avoid prison time for snitching. But chalk another one up for Harris’ column, because Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee announced her support for Kamala Harris yesterday.
In a video post on Lee’s official Instagram account (that was transcribted by Blabbermouth):
“I’m Amy Lee, and I will proudly be voting for Kamala Harris for president of the United States.
“There’s so much at stake this year, from reproductive rights to responsible gun legislation we desperately need, to democracy itself. Our right to have a voice in this place. We need an advocate, someone who will listen to us and represent us with honor and integrity.
“I believe Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will help take our country forward.
“Vote. Voting is a privilege we can’t take for granted. Use your voice. Use it for something good.”
The endorsement doesn’t come as a complete surprise as Evanescence was one of the bands who played the Musicians for Kamala livestream back in September, one of only two metal artists in the lineup along with Living Colour. Still, it’s always a good thing when an artist speaks out for what they believe in.
