Right-Wing Hardcore Band One Life Crew Start Feud With Zulu, Back Down Soon Afterward
One Life Crew describes themselves on Bandcamp as an “Alt-Right Wing Straight edge hardcore band,” which is an oxymoron to begin with. The band’s logo is a play off the racist Cleveland Indians logo, they have a long history of sexist, racist, and homophobic lyrics, and in 2004 they put out a split EP with white-power hardcore act Empire Falls. I’m not inclined to like these guys, to say the least. So when One Life Crew got into a beef with Black powerviolence act Zulu yesterday on Instagram, I’m definitely rooting for Zulu.
In a now-deleted post that was reported on by Lambgoat, One Life Crew posted an image of Zulu guitarist Dez Yusuf on Instagram wearing a hat that said “FUCK OLC,” which seems like a perfectly reasonable position to take given the available facts. The image came with the caption:
“ZULU thanks for the dis. WE HATE YOU JUST AS MUCH .. go trump. GET OUT”
One Life Crew also took issue with Zulu’s slogan “abolish white hardcore,” which they put on some of their merchandise. When someone responded to OLC’s post by saying “Abolish white hardcore,” the band responded:
“it’s what the PEOPLE say.. it’s ok to be racist if your black? Could u imagine if we did an abolish black HXC tee? Wow.”
A few hours later, One Life Crew’s post of Yusuf was deleted and OLC posted a screenshot of the end of their phone call with Zulu with the caption:
“Just talked to the dude from ZULU @blackpowerviolence . BEEF Squashed. I apologized for my posts. Everyone move on. Support both if u want. Grown man shit. RESPECT”
Okay, but is the beef squashed? Because I’m pretty sure OLC still stands for everything that Zulu stands against. I’m pretty sure Dez Yusuf isn’t throwing out that hat anytime soon.
