Sabella Vocalist Steps Down, Cites Bandmate Being Accused of Sexual Assault as a Reason

0

There are a lot of ways to burn your bridges when quitting a job, but I don’t know if any of them are quite as effective as publicly announcing that your coworkers were accused of sexual assault. But that’s what happened with New York emo/metal hybrid band Sabella in the past few days.

The band seemed to return from hiatus, very quietly dropping a new album called Easy a few weeks ago, their first since their 2017 album Dog Daze. The new album was not announced on any of the band’s social media and wasn’t posted to their Bandcamp page, which seemed very strange. Then their lead vocalist, whose name isn’t publicly known but who goes by the username @thexallfather, made a post on Instagram explaining his departure that has since been deleted but was reported on by Lambgoat. It read:

“This will be the only post I make regarding the matter, however it needs to be said for those not yet aware and wondering.

“I recently decided to step away from ©sabellaofficial and all future endeavors, for reasons I wont entirely get into here.

“However I can no longer choose to align myself with people who have proven their blatant lack of morals and respect to those around them behind closed doors, nonetheless unsettling SA allegations about a certain member that have recently come to light.

“Its sad that I am forced to choose between walking away or to continue condoning this behavior, which i will not do.

“I’m insanely grateful for everyone and all the memories over the past 10 years and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

“Thank you guys for everything.”

That leaves a lot of questions unanswered and, seeing as how he deleted the post, it would seem that answers aren’t going to be forthcoming anytime soon. But to step away from a band and announce that a band member was accused of assault, while tagging the band, is a pretty bold move. Meanwhile, Sabella are currently supposed to be on tour supporting Cell and a post on Cell’s Instagram on Saturday seemed to imply that Sabella was still playing the show. No word on exactly how that happened.
