It’s Looking Very Likely That Ozzy Won’t Perform at His Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction
With his induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame slated to take place this Saturday, Ozzy Osbourne will likely not be able to perform on his own. The news comes after Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan revealed in an interview on The Allison Hagendorf Show how he became one of several vocalists chosen to sing on behalf of the “Prince of Darkness”.
“Yeah, I mean, it’s, if I’m being honest, mixed feelings. ‘Cause I’m having to come in, and a couple of other people are coming in, to sing for him, which is depressing, to have to sing for him. But that we’re able to step up and help him in this induction is inspiring. I’m glad I got the call. I’m sure a bunch of people got the call, but I think I responded first.”
For a while now, Ozzy’s been unable to perform due to lingering health issues stemming from a back injury he suffered back in the early 2000s. His condition is so bad that he was forced to cancel a tour with Judas Priest, along with other prior engagements.
After it was announced that he was being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for his solo career, many speculated as to whether he would be able to perform when the induction ceremony takes place at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. It’s customary for the inductee to eventually get on stage and play, but it’s looking like that won’t be possible for Ozzy.
As a result, the following musicians are scheduled to perform at Osbourne’s Rock Hall induction:
- Billy Idol
- Maynard James Keenan
- Jelly Roll
- Zakk Wylde
- Andrew Watt
- Steve Stevens
- Wolfgang Van Halen
- Robert Trujillo
- Chad Smith
Naturally, not all of those people are singing for him, but that’s one hell of a star-studded list. I can’t imagine having to get up on stage and perform a legend’s music in front of them. To that end, Keenan said he was nervous about his part in the performance.
“It’s terrifying — extremely terrifying. Yeah, ’cause this is for him, and his song is out of my range. So I’m gonna be struggling to hit the notes, but I got the call and so I answered.”
