Poppy Dropped Two New Singles “The Cost of Giving Up” and “Crystallized”

Say what you will about Poppy, but there’s a very good chance that her next album Negative Spaces will be damn good. Haters and doubters be damned, this YouTuber turned surreal metal artist has been putting out pretty good songs over the years, but these last few single drops have been something else.

Roughly a month out from the release of her forthcoming album, Poppy released not one, but two new singles: “The Cost Of Giving Up” and “Crystallized.” Both have very different styles, with the former being a more typical Spiritbox-esque, alt-metal affair, while the latter is so synth-driven that it feels like you’d hear it playing in a club during the 80s.

Coupled with the previous single drops of “they’re all around us” and “New Way Out”, you’ve got a pretty good idea of what Negative Spaces is. Along with the collaborations she’s done with bands like Bad Omens, Spiritbox, and Knocked Loose in recent months, it really seems like if you’re into the more avant-garde side of that modern sound, you’ve got plenty of it thanks to Poppy.

Going back to her video-based roots, Poppy’s also got a streaming series on Veeps called Improbably Poppy that features skits, commentary, and music. Each episode will feature the artist performing a new song, with an EP coming in the future featuring those tracks.

Negative Spaces will be her sixth full-length album and her first official release since last year’s Zig. It’s also worth noting that it was produced by ex-Bring Me The Horizon keyboardist Jordan Fish. It will be released on November 15 via Sumerian Records, but you can preorder your copy today.
