Monster Magnet Tour Ends Abruptly as Dave Wyndorf Goes Home to Seek Medical Attention
Talk about a massive fucking bummer, but Monster Magnet‘s 35th Anniversary European Tour was cut short by 10 shows due to the fact that frontman Dave Wyndorf has gotten too sick to perform.
According to a post from the 67-year-old guitarist/vocalist, he’d been sick ever since the start of the tour, dealing with mild cold symptoms that persisted and got worse over time. Rather than push through and provide a less-than-stellar final product, he said he would rather cut his losses and get help.
“It is with regret that I have to announce cutting this tour short by 10 shows.
“I started the tour off with a mild cold that worsened to the point of blowing my voice out more than a few times and continuing would not only seriously damage the vocal cords but sound like shit as well. So in the interest of both health and quality I’m pulling the plug.
“My sincere apologies go out to ticket holders of these canceled shows. We’ll surely make up for them when we return. Finally, many thanks for everybody who came out. You ROCK!”
In a post from October 12, Wyndorf suggested that a compounding factor for why his health hasn’t been great lately is his hypothyroidism, which he said was “shutting me down to the point where I’m dizzy and exhausted no matter HOW much sleep I get.”
That reared its ugly head during the live shows that Wyndorf managed to play during this tour, as fans reported online that they were concerned he was sitting on a chair throughout the whole performance. During those shows, Wyndorf’s guitar effects board was elevated enough so he could manipulate them with his hands.
We at MetalSucks want to wish Wyndorf a safe and quick recovery. Monster Magnet fucking rules and he needs to get better so he can get back out there and kick some ass on stage.
