Decrepit Birth and Bassist Sean Martinez Part Ways
The revolving door leading to Decrepit Birth has been left spinning once again, as their bassist of roughly the last 12 years announced via social media that he’s leaving the band to “explore new horizons in music and bass playing.”
The announcement was made just a couple days ago, with Martinez making a lengthy announcement post on his social media accounts. He’d originally joined the band back in 2012 and was featured in their 2017 album Axis Mundi.
“After a long and fulfilling journey, I’ve made the difficult decision to permanently leave Decrepit Birth as their bassist.
“Since joining in 2012, I’ve had the privilege of touring with incredible musicians like 66Samus, Alex Bent and Gabe Seeber on drums, Chase Fraser and Matt Sotelo on Guitar and the legendary Bill Robinson on vocals. We also had Mac Smith on standby to fill in on vocals during Covid.
“Writing and recording bass parts for Axis Mundi was an incredible experience, and that, along with touring, doing the play back and monitors, and eventually helping the band get some live recordings of the performances really contributed to my growth as a musician for which I’m eternally grateful!
“After much reflection, I feel it’s time to explore new horizons in music and bass playing. I am available for session work and would consider joining another band in the future. I’m eager to dive into new projects and genres while also offering my skills in live sound and production—both at home and on the road.
“I wish Decrepit all the best moving forward and hope to see a new bassist step in to carry on the legacy. I’ll occasionally share videos of our live performances to keep the inspiration alive.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey; your encouragement means the world!”
As of the time of this posting, Decrepit Birth themselves haven’t addressed the vacancy, nor have they announced Martinez’s replacement. Instead, they shared his announcement on their page, which is somewhat awkward because the previous posts on their accounts are the band wishing Martinez a happy birthday this past July.
We’ll have to see how this vacancy impacts the band as a whole, especially since it’s been so long since a studio release…
