Bon Jovi Endorses Kamala Harris and Tim Walz with the Release of a New Single and Video
New Jersey’s own Bon Jovi might be a fairly lukewarm arena rock band who, even in their hardest days, qualified as a pop-metal band at best, but at least they aren’t Trump supporters. Bon Jovi announced the release of their latest single and video “The People’s House” on Friday, off their recently released album Forever. The new single features a guest appearance from Michigan-based gospel/country husband-and-wife duo The War and Treaty. The song was released as an endorsement of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for President of the United States, and Jon Bon Jovi made sure that nobody missed that point.
Posting about the new song and video on Instagram, Jon Bon Jovi wrote:
“The People’s House is a song that celebrates this beautiful place that we call home, from sea to shining sea..
“The truth matters. And the truth is on election day I’ll be voting for [Kamala Harris] and [Tim Walz] because I believe in the power of we, not of me. I’ve written a song reminding us that out of many, we are still one.”
The comments section on his Instagram post are, much like our own comments section these days, filled with people telling Jon Bon Jovi to leave his politics to himself. The problem about that, of course, is that it’s stupid. Art is meant to be political, and when art refuses to address what’s going on in the world around it, you end up with, well, Kiss. Or AC/DC. Or Mötley Crüe. Or Buckcherry. Party rock is fun from time to time, but sooner or later, music has to take a long, hard look at what’s going on in the world and—as long as you’re not some morally-impaired dipshit like Ted Nugent or Kid Rock—you end up with some better music that way.
Oh, and the video for “The People’s House” was the one that Jon Bon Jovi was shooting when he talked that suicidal woman off a bridge. So Bon Jovi did a few good things with this video.
