Sh*t That Comes Out Today: October 11, 2024
I’m not going to say anything that may jinx the results of the NLCS in the coming days. All I know is I’m excited the Mets beat the Phillies and that they’re moving on. They’re playing with house money and all that shit, so let’s just enjoy the ride… Thankfully, we’ve got a new slate of metal to keep my mind off baseball…
Ad Infinitum
Abyss (Napalm Records)
Swiss symphonic metal act Ad Infinitum return with their fifth full-length album and their first without “Chapter” in the title. Joking aside, if you like clean, melodic vocals helping drive a modern, almost djenty at times sound, you’ll enjoy this release. It’s technically proficient, bombastic, and sounds huge.
Cemetery Skyline
Nordic Gothic (Century Media)
Look out, supergroup incoming. Featuring members of Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium, Amorphis, Dimmu Borgir, and Sentenced, this band’s been cooking since 2020, though they’re only now putting the fruits of their labor out into the world. The self-described Nordic Gothic band has gone on the record saying they want to create music “from the idea to create ageless dark music with respect to our generation’s biggest influencers” and it definitely shows.
Chat Pile
Cool World (The Flenser)
We ran our review for this new offering from Oklahoma-based sludge/noise metal act yesterday and let’s just say, we really liked our time with Cool World. Reviewer Max Heilman called the band’s sophomore full-length effort a “perilous journey, but one worth taking,” stating that Chat Pile’s Cool World “exists more to manifest a headspace — one marked by misery and delirium.”
Master Boot Record
Hardwarez (Metal Blade Records)
For the first time in the act’s existence, they’ve added real life actual guitar into the mix for Hardwarez. And even with the introduction of a six string, it’s still dark and heavy synthwave music at the end of the day.
Vomit Forth
Terrified of God (Century Media)
Connecticut death metal outfit Vomit Forth’s sophomore album Terrified of God is just… fucking brutal. The guitars and bass are heavy and biting in the mix, the drums attack with machine gun rapport, and Kane Gelaznik’s vocals sound tortured and abyssal before launching into a hellacious scream. This is definitely your weekly pick if you want to piss off your neighbors.
