Make Them Suffer Drop New Single “Mana God”
Ages ago, one of my predecessors wrote about Australian deathcore outfit Make Them Suffer, calling them a late entry to the NWOAHM (as in “New Wave of Australian Heavy Metal”) scene. Today, I’m here not to tell you what they should be classified as, but rather to alert you to the new single titled “Mana God” off their forthcoming self-titled album.
Set for release on November 8 via Sharptone Records, Make Them Suffer’s new effort cuts like a buzzsaw. Yes, they still have the dueling vocal styles and yes, they at times sound djenty as fuck, but it’s that combination of deathcore and electronic stylings that really stand out.
Speaking of the new track, vocalist Sean Harmanis said it’s hard to talk about “Mana God” without sounding like an absolute psycho.
“There is a fine line to tread when discussing a song like ‘Mana God’ without sounding like a crazed conspiracy theorist. I feel we’ve now reached a point in time where the systems of control in our day-to-day lives are both present and obvious to most rational minds. Despite this, having conversations about topics like this are becoming increasingly difficult and are often considered inflammatory.
“‘Mana God’ is a song about control. The control that the media can have over our thoughts and views. The control that religious organisations can have over people’s lives. The level of control that governments are able to enforce and most importantly the control that we are often held under by our own technological devices and their algorithms.”
To that end, he blames the supercomputers in our pockets for a lot of the issues that “Mana God” calls out.
“Most people today would know at least one or many who have been driven to the brink of madness by the echo chamber of their phone or computer…’Mana God,’ to me, is a call to action, to break away from the current systems of control and return to a space where communication and human connection are nurtured and encouraged.”
