Slayer Showcase Decades of Thrash Metal Brutality by Launching Digital Museum

Few bands have as storied a history as the legendary Slayer. For more than 40 years, they’ve carved a name for themselves in the history books, creating an absolutely batshit fanbase that would follow them to the ends of the Earth. Seriously, just scream “SLAYER” in a crowded space and I guarantee a handful of people will scream that shit right back at you.

It’s that very same historical significance that’s now getting a digital home in what’s being called the “Slaytanic Verses” — a digital museum that contains photos and artifacts from throughout Slayer’s career. Compiled in partnership with Definitive Authentic/Inveniem, this new feature on Slayer’s official website includes rare shit from way back in the day. I’m talking things like a hand-drawn poster from the first show all the way to photos and videos from Slayer’s “final show” in 2019.

According to the band, the museum will be updated regularly with more photos, memorabilia, and first-hand accounts of shit that went down over the years.

After taking a cursory look through what they’ve uploaded so far, it’s great to see so much of the yearly years represented. Too often shit like old posters and Polaroid photos can get lost to the annals of time. To see where it all started for one of the “Big Four” is super interesting.

It’s also great to see the late Jeff Hanneman all over the place in this thing. I know that shouldn’t surprise me, but it’s a reminder of what Slayer used to be before his untimely passing. After listening to Slayer’s work after losing him, it always makes me wonder what Slayer would be right now if he hadn’t passed away. Who knows? Maybe they wouldn’t have “reunited” anyway.
