Scowl Drop New Song “Special” After Signing with Dead Oceans
Bay Area hardcore outfit Scowl are making a big move in their career, switching labels to the independent record label Dead Oceans. To mark the occasion, they’ve put out a new single “Special” and released its accompanying music video. Produced by Will-Yip and mixed by Rich Costey, the track has a big sound that’s sure to fill out venues and play particularly well at next year’s festival circuit.
For those that don’t know, Dead Oceans is the same label that Phoebe Bridgers, Mitski, Japanese Breakfast, and others.
Speaking of the single, vocalist Kat Moss said the song’s all about having a real introspective look into yourself, even if the answer to your questions are right in front of you the whole time.
“Originally Malachi sent in the demo while we were touring the UK. Cole added his flare on drums, Bailey directed the bridge, and finally Mikey cooked up his leads. ‘Special’ is a kamikaze. The lyrics are about threatening the audience by asking ‘what do you really want?’ in clear desperation to answer my own question ‘what do I really want?’ But the answer is simple, I want to feel alive.”
With this being a standalone single, we don’t know if there’s a new album in the works (though chances are there is). So for the time being, we’ve got a new track and they’ve got a new home for their musical endeavors moving forward.
